What makes CVW unique

One dedicated advisor. No products to sell.

We are independent, which means you work directly with a dedicated person, rather than a revolving door of advisors at a large corporation. As a fiduciary, CVW does not sell insurance or investment products, which allows us to provide unbiased advice based solely on your needs and goals.

The focus is always on understanding you as an individual, with the aim of building long-term relationships rooted in trust, transparency and ethics.

Simple fees & structures
Planning1%of household income
Investing1.25%of assets under management
Specific projects$100per hour

Assets under management are charged 1.25% annually, billed monthly (.1042% per month) and deducted directly from your brokerage account.

Clients

Every client is unique and deserves respect.

I seek individuals who are committed to taking control of their finances and working together to achieve their goals. Many people don’t use a financial advisor, which can mean missing out on opportunities. There are no income requirements or background preferences.

“What am I supposed to do with my money?” “Have we invested enough?” “Can we afford a new house?” “Is our lifestyle sustainable?” “I wish I could travel more.”

Does this sound like you? Let’s talk.

What to expect
  1. Initial Meeting

Our first meeting takes place before we’ve even decided to work together, in person or virtual. You have no obligation beyond telling me what you’re looking for, and you can ask anything about the firm and about me. I work with people, not money, so I never ask for specific dollar amounts at this stage.

  2. Goal Setting

Once we sign the necessary forms, we discuss your goals, whether specific or general.

    • Short-term: annual vacations, cars
    • Long-term: a vacation house, retirement
  3. Information Gathering

Share documents by secure financial planning software, email, Google Drive, or hand or mail in hard copy: paystubs and tax information, account statements and, for financial plans, auto and home insurance and trust documents.

  4. Analysis

I analyze where you are now and the strengths and weaknesses of what you’ve been doing. There may be several conversations and emails while I get a clear picture of your situation and what you want.

  5. Presentation

I present my recommendations and give you time to think. Then we adjust any part of the plan as needed.

  6. Monitoring

We monitor your progress and keep adjusting, as often as weekly or as infrequently as every six months, based on your needs.

About

Timothy Walt, CFP®

Founder of CVW Financial, LLC and financial advisor in Plymouth, my passion is my wife, our two daughters and our dog, Chester V. Walt, CVW’s namesake. I understand how complex life can be because my family is in the thick of it.

I built CVW Financial from the ground up to be the kind of advisor I would want myself, free of the pressures of sales and corporate quotas. That lets me work with whom I choose and spend the time each client needs.

Before opening my own RIA to serve all of Massachusetts, I was a musician, a carpenter and a teacher. Each song is different, each child is unique, and that philosophy carries through to my work.

Two books that shaped my approach: Have You Filled a Bucket Today? (be kind and you fill their bucket and your own) and A Random Walk Down Wall Street (trends come and go, but the facts never change).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes, both legally and ethically. My primary obligation is to prioritize your needs above my own. Non-fiduciaries are only required to ensure that the products you purchase are suitable for you, not that they are the most beneficial or cost-effective options.

Three ways, depending on your needs: for a full financial plan, 1% of household income; for assets under management, 1.25% annually billed monthly (.1042% per month) and deducted from your brokerage account; and an hourly cost of $100, generally for specific projects, which is not an added charge.

It depends on your needs, but generally:
  • An answer to your questions, such as “When can I retire?” or “Am I saving enough?”
  • A sequential list of recommendations, from ways to protect yourself, to which debts to pay off first, to how much to save and in what types of accounts.
  • Access to planning software to explore scenarios and update information as things change.
  • Meetings with me at least semi-annually, often more, to update information, monitor progress and adjust.

I build your portfolio around your timeline, risk profile, tax situation and investing experience, among other factors. In general I favor funds instead of individual securities, buy and hold instead of timing the market, a rebalancing check every 6 months, and reviewing and updating as necessary.

None. I do planning (putting the pieces of your financial life together) and advising (investments). I want as few conflicts of interest as possible, so any recommendation I can fulfill is done under the assets-under-management model. My only incentive to recommend something is my belief that it is the best thing for you.
